Empowering women as leaders in communication
The second-oldest women’s college in the United States, Stephens College is an affiliate of the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication at Florida International University. We share the Center’s mission to empower women as leaders in communication and to uphold diversity and inclusion invitations in communication practice and research. As a satellite location of the Kopenhaver Center, we provide access to guest speakers, networking events, and virtual workshops for the benefit of students, early professionals, and seasoned communication experts alike.
Our Mission
As a satellite location of the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication, we share the organization's primary mission: To empower both women professionals and academics in all the fields of communication, in order to develop visionaries and leaders who can make a difference in their communities and their profession.
Our Goals
Serve as a thought-leadership center for research and professional development for the next generation of women leaders in mass communication.
Mentor the next generation of professionals as they build careers in mass communication.
Initiate programs for young, diverse women commencing careers in the communications industries in order to prepare them to enter and succeed in the workplace.
Recognize the achievements of female leaders in the communication industries and the academy.
Provide training programs centered around ensuring diversity and inclusion in the communications professions through embracing change, innovation, and entrepreneurialism in a variety of programs throughout the year, stressing the educational value of programs and avoiding advocacy or political statements.
